Noa Shapira

I grew up in a house full of music. There was almost always something playing at home, from all kinds of genres and places. At 12, I picked up the guitar and started out teaching myself with a Beatles songbook. Later I took private lessons, studied jazz at the Tel Aviv Conservatory, and continued studying in New York with several wonderful teachers, including the legendary pianist and educator Barry Harris. For me, music is a window into different cultures, social issues and personal stories. It can help us make sense of the world, and give us a way to express emotions that are sometimes harder to put into words. I have taught both privately and at a Conservatory for Music and Dance, working individually with students as well as with ensembles. I like to meet students where they are and build from their own musical interests. Some want to learn their favorite songs, others want to write, improvise or understand how music works. My aim is to help each student gradually develop their own musical instincts and identity.
